Police: Three Iowans jailed for passing fake $20s in Sterling

Jimmie D. Martin, 40, of Bettendorf, is charged with five counts of burglary and five counts of forgery.

Jeffrey K. Morris, 46, of Davenport, is charged with four counts of burglary and four counts of forgery. He also is wanted in Rock Island County for misdemeanor retail theft and in Davenport for felony theft.

Vauncile M. Ruby, 46, of Davenport, is charged with four counts of burglary, four counts of forgery and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. She also is wanted in Rock Island County for misdemeanor retail theft.

According to a news release from Sterling police, at 4:55 p.m. Saturday they received a report of a man and woman spending counterfeit $20 bills at the Walmart at 4115 E. Lincolnway. Other Walmarts in the area were put on alert.

At 5:15 p.m., staff at the Dixon Walmart contacted police there and said the same two people were trying to return items there. Martin, Morris and Ruby were arrested by 5:55 p.m. and turned over to Sterling police, who then identified several Sterling stores where the three had spent fake $20 bills, the release said.

Bond was set at $250,000 for Martin and Morris, and $150,000 for Ruby.
