Win record doesn’t come easy for Rockets

Tying a school record wasn't easy for the Rock Falls Rockets on Thursday. They needed two more wins with traditional 1A powers Newman and Stillman Valley standing in the way.

The Rockets did it by besting the Comets 40-37 and then knocking off the Cardinals 43-30 in Stillman Valley. The two wins give the Rockets a 22-5 record. They will not wrestle another dual this season unless they win the 1A Rock Falls regional next Saturday.

Winning two contested matches on the night for Rock Falls were Carlos Gutierrez at 120 pounds and Josiah Torres at 220 pounds. Gutierrez had a major decision of Newman's Eli Monier at 15-6, and beat Mason Tomash of Stillman Valley 11-6. Torres pinned Stillman's Jaocb Breitbach in 1:17 and Newman's Noah Leffleman in 1:36.
