Verna "Tommie" Bierman

STERLING – Verna “Tommie” Bierman, 89, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at her daughter’s home in Sterling. She was a foster parent for the Department of Children and Family Services for many years.

Verna was born May 24, 1923, in Wills Point, Texas, the daughter of Sewell and Tennie (Daniel) Huff. She married Fremont M. “Budd” Bierman on Dec. 31, 1944, in Phenix City, Ala. He preceded her in death on March 25, 2007. Verna was a member of the Church of Christ in Sterling.  

Survivors include one daughter, Sandra (Merle) Heckman of Sterling; two sons, Dan (Jeanne) Bierman of Alachua, Fla., and Steve (Kay) Bierman of Long Boat Key, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, two brothers, and one granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Church of Christ in Sterling, with the Rev. Joe Puckett, minister, officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling.

Memorial have been established to CGH Health Foundation and Schults-Lewis Foundation, a children’s home.
