What are your hobbies?

I'm a creative person. I do a lot of drawing, I knit, I hoola hoop like crazy, and I paint teacups.

Why the interest in hoola hooping?

I like documentary films. One was on Cirque du Soleil, and they had this girl who was hoola hooping. My grandpa always says I'm going to join the circus, so I thought 'I'll learn the hoola hoop, and maybe I'll have a chance.

What about the knitting?

I'm cheap, and I don't want to buy my own scarves, so I learned how to knit. Now I have people in a knitting frenzy at school.

What are your plans beyond high school?

I'm turning in my scholarship for the Art Institute [in Milwaukee]. I also recently got a faculty scholarship if I go to that school, but I'm undecided at the moment.

Any particular schools you're interested in?

None are in Illinois. I want to venture out. I applied to the Art Institutes in Milwaukee and Minneapolis, the Art and Design School in Columbus, Ohio, and Carthage [College] in Kenosha [Wis.] They've all accepted me.

Leaning toward any of them?

I recently went up to Milwaukee, and I fell in love with the whole art ward. And I like the businesses around there. I'm a nerd and I will look up things in the town or city I'm going to live in and try to get a job there.

Did you always know what you wanted to be when you grew up?

I thought I was going to be a fashion designer. I would force my little sisters into wearing whatever I created and put on fashion shows. I also thought I was going to be a beat boxer.

What's your family like?

We're loud. We're all girls except for my dad. My parents are total opposites. My mom's from up north. I was born in Louisiana, where my dad's from.

How long were in Louisiana?

Until fourth or fifth grade. I still go down because my family is there. We're Cajun. I'm Cajun and German.

Are you into Cajun food?

My mom's been forced to pick up how to make spicy stuff. Don't ask what meat they use. Never ask what meat they use.

What kinds of Cajun foods have you had?

Gumbo. Jambalaya. Turtle soup. I was playing with a turtle outside, and there it was, in my soup. Alligator. Boudan.

Got a favorite?

Boudan. There's two types. One is pig intestines emptied out then stuffed with rice, spices and meat. The other is a breaded ball.

Any other favorite foods?

My grandpa gets me on some weird foods. I love sardines. I could live off sardines, liver sausage and crackers, and I love brats and sauerkraut.

What kind of music to you like?

I have a wide range. My parents are totally different, so when you're in the car with them, I could be listening to DMX the rapper or Toby Keith the country singer. I've learned to love everything. I like a lot of composed music. I like a lot of indie, rock, metal, some rap, blues. I love funk. I like 80s music and techno.

Any TV shows you like to watch?

Pawn Shop. Storage Wars. Duck Dynasty. American Pickers. I like those shows, because I like to collect things, but I never finish a collection.

What about movies? Any that you particulary enjoy?

I love old black-and-white horror films. Swamp Woman is my favorite one. I like the art of it. The camera angles. The music. I like Hitchcock. I'm a huge Resident Evil fan, and the Lord of the Rings.

Anything else you're involved with?

I'm pretty involved with church. I go to St. John's in Ashton. We don't have a youth group there. It's pretty small, but I go to a youth group at Immanuel in Dixon. I'm also part of the Lutheran Youth Organization. I got asked for the second time to go to the national Lutheran convention. A few years ago, I was chosen to be a youth representative. Now, I've been chosen an adult representative of the state.
