PALM COAST, Fla. – John Larry Thompson, 65, of Sterling, quietly passed from this life Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast, after an extended illness.

John was born July 19, 1947, in Sterling, the son of John N. and Susan Thompson of Rock Falls. He was a 1966 graduate of Rock Falls High School. He was joined in marriage on April 20, 1968, to Dorothy Russell of Sterling. He was the proud parent of Chandra and Alexander Thompson.

John was employed for 29 years at Northwestern Steel and Wire. At the age of 55, he took on the challenge to return to college. He graduated from Kishwaukee Community College with an Associate of Applied Science degree in horticulture. He started Thompson Landscape and Lawn Care, providing landscaping and lawn care service to local business and residential clients.
