DIXON – A fundraiser to help a local veteran fight cancer will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Dixon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 540, 1560 Franklin Grove Road.

Randy Miller of rural Dixon, who was a mental health technician at Jack Mabley Center, is being treated for stage 4 rectal cancer at Northern Illinois Cancer Treatment Center in Dixon.

“He can’t work right now,” said Kelly McLaughlin, Miller’s niece. “He doesn’t have insurance.”

Miller served in the Marine Corps from September 1975 to September 1979.

Admission to the VFW benefit is free. Food will be available by donation, and there will be a silent auction of gift baskets, gift cards and other items, as well as a 50/50 drawing, live music by Bounce, a bake sale and face painting for children. Wacko the Clown will perform from 3 to 5 p.m.

Donations for the silent auction are welcome.

Call McLaughlin, 815-440-8637, for more information.

Monetary donations also may be made to the Randy Miller Fund at First National Bank of Amboy at 220 E. Main St. or 301 E. Joe Drive in Amboy, or at 1314 N. Galena Ave. or 728 S. Crawford Ave. in Dixon.
