DIXON – Joan Padilla’s No. 1 goal is to promote the Home of Hope Cancer Wellness Center.
Padilla was named the new executive director of Home of Hope, 1637 Plock Road, earlier this month. She replaces Jenee Jeanblanc.
The nonprofit provides support services, education and wellness programs for cancer patients, including yoga, massage therapy and healing touch, and support services for their families and caregivers.
Padilla, 48, of Sterling, graduated in May 2012 from Western Illinois University with a liberal arts degree and a minor in social work. That was after working 28 years as a dental hygienist.
She said continuing programs, keeping the organization financially stable and spreading the word around the community will be her main objectives.
“I’m excited to take on the job,” Padilla said. “I wanted to switch gears in my career. I’ve had some experience helping people, and I knew I wanted to keep helping people for a nonprofit, and Home of Help is a great organization.”
Padilla ran unsuccessfully for Whiteside County recorder in November.
