Official: 2 Cook County deaths may be cold-related
CHICAGO (AP) — The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office is trying to determine whether the extreme cold was to blame for the deaths of two people whose bodies were found outside their homes.
Spokeswoman Mary Paleologos says a 66-year-old woman was found outside her Chicago home on Tuesday morning by a visiting caregiver. She says the woman had a disability from a previous stroke.
On Tuesday afternoon, a postal worker discovered the frozen body of a 72-year-old Oak Park man on his front porch. Officials say the victim had a history of heart disease. He was fully clothed and wearing a jacket.
Paleologos says autopsies will determine an official cause of death.
Cold was blamed for the death of a 70-year-old Des Plaines man found Sunday inside his unheated mobile home.
