Law-abiding citizens need to be protected

I would like to say our family has owned and enjoyed guns for more than 50 years without any negative impact. What could have killed us off is the fire at an area mobile park on New Year's Day.

Our neighbor has had the police called to his now-destroyed home many times because of his behavior. He was even taken out of the park by the police this past summer because of his wild driving. When anyone complained, the same answer was given: Our hands are tied. No one would step up and do something.

At the moment, you would think a tornado hit my house and yard. Because of our wonderful, hard-working emergency people, our house was saved within minutes of being destroyed. One of our cars was also damaged. I'm certainly glad they didn't sit around and whine that their hands were tied when called.

Wise saw collapse in support

Last week, Sterling Alderwoman Amy Viering attended her last meeting as a city official. She gave the usual praise one hears at such departures. But one compliment stuck out. At the end of her speech, she turned to City Administrator Scott Shumard and said, "You're awesome."
