STERLING – Dr. Wil Booker, 66, of Sterling, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at his home following an extended illness.

He was born Jan. 5, 1947, in Springfield, the son of Alvin and Cora (Stewart) Booker. He married Mary Franklin on March 18, 1967, in Normal. 

Wil was a loving and devoted husband, father, and friend with a wonderful sense of humor, love of nature, and a lifelong passion for education. He will be greatly missed by all of those whose lives he touched.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; his daughter, Michelle Booker of Sterling; his son, Jason Booker of Chicago; and his mother, Cora Jiles of Columbia, S.C.

He was preceded in death by his father, and his brother, Terry Booker.

A gathering of friends and family to celebrate his life will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at McDonald Funeral Home, 505 First Ave. in Sterling.
