Girls basketball: Rock Falls pummels Princeton

Newman, Prophetstown roll to lopsided victories

Morgan Mammosser continued her recent torrid play, scoring 18 points to lead Rock Falls in a 59-31 romp over Princeton on Saturday at Tabor Gym in Rock Falls.

Mammosser also had seven assists and four steals. Dallas Clevenger added 11 points for the Rockets (11-12), while Jordan Giddings had nine and Bailey Schrader eight.

Sterling 56, Yorkville 54: Kiarra Harris hit the game-winning shot with 4 seconds left off a Kaitlyn Bauer screen for a Northern Illinois Big 12 crossover victory at Musgrove Fieldhouse.

Harris led Sterling (14-11, 7-0 NIB-12 West) with 19 points, and Bauer added 14. The Warriors resume West Division play Thursday in Ottawa, where the Pirates (6-1) will try to pull even.

Prophetstown 69, Amboy 29: The Prophets (22-3, 10-1 Three Rivers) dominated, building a 40-11 halftime advantage en route to a 40-point win over the Clippers.

Riley Walters scored 18 points, Cassie Reiley 13 and Corrie Reiley 10 for Prophetstown. Autumn Smith led Amboy (12-9, 5-6) with 15 points.

Fulton 30, Morrison 26: Morgan Wierema scored 15 points to lead the Steamers past the Fillies in a Three Rivers clash at Fulton.

Morgan Sanquist added eight points for Fulton (9-16, 4-6). Ashley Greul led Morrison (3-19, 1-11) with 12 points, and Lakin Goodman added eight.

Riverdale 96, Bureau Valley 27: The Rams had a record-setting performance at the Storm’s expense in Three Rivers play at Port Byron.

Riverdale’s Hannah Nimrick scored 27 points to become the school’s all-time leading scorer. Teammate Elle May had 20 points and became the Rams’ career steals leader.

BV (1-22, 0-10) got seven points from Krista Naaktgeboren.

East Dubuque 63, Polo 46: Aleetra Roberts had 21 points and eight rebounds for Polo (5-15), while Kelsey Taylor and Alina Llanas scored eight points apiece in an NUIC crossover loss on the road.

Taylor grabbed eight boards, Llanas dished five assists, and Keeley Meyer finished with four points and 11 rebounds.

West Carroll Shootout

Newman 46, Prince of Peace (Iowa) 31: Rachel Hageman and Jaimie Hurd scored 12 points apiece as the Comets defeated the Irish from Clinton, Iowa.

Mary Alice Oswalt added 10 points for Newman (13-9).

Preston (Iowa) 66, West Carroll 35: Ieshia Larson poured in a game-high 21 points, but it wasn’t enough to lift the Thunder in a loss to the Trojans from Preston, Iowa.

The Trojans led 18-8 after one quarter and 44-22 at the half. Tre Baisden added eight points for West Carroll (3-16).

Women’s basketball

Malcolm X 76, Sauk Valley 55: Lydia Box scored 23 points for the Skyhawks in Chicago.

Also for Sauk Valley (9-7), Brianna Richardson scored 15 points, Sheldeen Joseph notched 10 points and three steals, and Holly Nicklaus added seven assists.
