Boys basketball: Oregon tops Morrison at Shootout

Newman, Milledgeville, host West Carroll also win at event

Newman, Oregon, Milledgeville and West Carroll all won Saturday at the West Carroll Shootout.

Newman 53, Preston
(Iowa) 34: A.J. Sharp scored 13 points and Nic Miller 10 as the Comets cruised past the Trojans.

Newman (16-3) outscored Preston 29-12 in the middle two quarters. Colton Bormann scored 12 points for the Trojans.

Oregon 55, Morrison 40: Caleb Mowry scored 24 points to lead the Hawks past the Mustangs.

Holden White hit five 3-pointers for 15 points for the Hawks (11-8). Will Gruel led Morrison (3-20) with 12 points.

Milledgeville 51, Prince of Peace (Iowa) 46: Jordan Harris scored 14 points, Caleb Skoog 12 and Kameron DawTyne 10 as the Missiles (5-15) downed the Irish of Clinton, Iowa.

Milledgeville led 32-23 at the half, and clung to a 39-38 lead after three quarters.

West Carroll 61, St. Francis de Sales 56: Tommy Losch poured in 27 points, and the Thunder (8-13) rallied in the fourth after trailing 45-42 heading into the quarter.

Sterling 58, Yorkville 38: The Golden Warriors (8-11) cruised past the Foxes in a Northern Illinois Big 12 crossover contest at Musgrove Fieldhouse.

Sycamore 49, Dixon 29: The Dukes suffered a 20-point setback in a NIB-12 crossover matchup at Lancaster Gym.

Cal Jarrett scored 14 points and pulled down nine rebounds for Dixon (3-15). Sycamore (11-6) led 15-6 after one quarter and 32-10 at the half.

Hinckley-Big Rock 59, Amboy 42: Tyson Powers scored 18 points, but the Clippers fell at home to the Royals.

Powers also pulled down 10 rebounds for Amboy (6-14). Michael Bayler (17 points) led the way for Hinckley-Big Rock.

Eastland 51, Lena-
Winslow 44: Dalton
Shaner scored 21 points as the Cougars beat the Panthers in an NUIC West tilt in Lena.

Eastland (15-3, 6-0) led 13-4 after one quarter and 28-11 at the half, but Le-Win (5-8, 2-2) fought back in the third quarter, outscoring the Cougars 17-6.

South Beloit tournament

Dakota 52, AFC 38: Troy Mairs scored 18 points for AFC in a losing effort.

The Raiders (5-10) trailed 11-1 after a quarter and 32-11 at the half. Brett Benning scored 24 for Dakota.

Men’s basketball

Malcolm X 75, Sauk Valley 61: Jalen Riley scored 21 points for the Skyhawks in a road loss in Chicago.

Also for Sauk Valley (12-7), Magd Owayed had 10 points, five rebounds and three blocks.
