Boys hoops tourney at Fulton Jan. 26
The Eric Ottens Memorial Shootout will be held at Fulton High School Jan. 26.
The boys hoops event opens with Stockton-Prophetstown at 2:30 p.m. After Timothy Christian and Stillman Valley tip off at 4, Erie plays Clinton (Iowa) at 5:30, and Fulton hosts Preston (Iowa) at 7.
Youth bowling event Monday at Blackhawk
The Coloma Township Park District is taking registration for the 39th annual youth bowling tournament Monday at the Paone’s Blackhawk Lanes in Sterling.
The tourney begins at 9:30 am. Youth ages of 6-18 are eligible. Entry is $12, and forms are available at the district office (508 E. 11th St., Rock Falls). For more information, call 815-625-0272.
Two in custody after high school shooting
A 17-year-old boy was shot and killed after a fight broke out at the end of a high school basketball game at Chicago State University.
Tyrone Lawson was shot around 9:20 p.m. outside the gymnasium, according to Police News Affairs
Officer Daniel O’Brien.
A gun was found in a Jeep that was pulled over east of the school. Two people were taken into custody, officials said.
Bears, five coaches part ways
New Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman let go offensive coordinator Mike Tice, receivers coach Darryl Drake, offensive line coach Tim Holt and quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates, according to one league source with direct knowledge of the situation.
Trestman told reporters he sat down with defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli, who decided to move on.
Five White Sox on WBC rosters
Five Chicago White Sox players were named to provisional rosters for the World Baseball Classic.
Alex Rios, left-hander Hector Santiago and minor league infielder Andy Gonzalez were placed on Puerto Rico’s roster.
Reliever Jesse Crain will participate for Canada, and minor league prospect Andre Rienzo will pitch for Brazil.
Cubs to build hotel adjacent to Wrigley
The owners of the Chicago Cubs plan to develop a hotel on property they own across the street from Wrigley Field that they acquired from McDonald’s Corp. more than a year ago.
Red Sox, Napoli agree to 1-year deal
The Boston Red Sox and catcher Mike Napoli have agreed to a 1-year contract worth $5 million.
Napoli hit .227 with 24 homers and 56 RBIs last season.
