DIXON – Lois M. Williams, the daughter of Charles and Clara Williams, was born Aug. 28, 1927, in Mendota. She died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Heritage Square in Dixon.
Her elementary and secondary education were in the Mendota area. She was a graduate of Taylor University in Upland, Ind., and attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.
Lois was a teacher most of her life, starting in 1949 in a one-room country school, then moving to Wyoming, where she worked with Child Evangelism Fellowship for 9 years. She also taught second grade for 3 years at a public school on the Wind River Indian Reservation. In 1961, she returned to Illinois and taught second grade for 28 years in the Dixon public schools. She retired in 1989. Since retirement, she had done volunteer work for Child Evangelism Fellowship in various ministries and places.
Lois was a member of Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Dixon for 36 years, and attended Bethel Evangelical Congregational Church in Dixon in recent years.
She is survived by several cousins.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by the funeral at 2 p.m., Monday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon, with the Rev. Robert Hollowell, former pastor of Community Alliance Church in Dixon, officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Restland Cemetery in Mendota.
A memorial has been established to Bethel Evangelical Congregational Church.
