Caleb Skoog Q&A: Milledgeville junior laying groundwork for career

Milledgeville High School junior Caleb Skoog is a three-sport athlete from Chadwick who has his foot in the door of a family business.

Let's hear about your job in landscaping, working for your grandfather and uncle. I help out in Chadwick whenever they need little things done on the weekends, like plowing or cutting grass – nothing too major.

Do you have regular customers? I mow at the bank and at Sewer Equipment – they have contracts with them. I do a lot of driveways of my grandpa's and uncle's friends – anything that needs to be done, really.

Have you ever gotten a snow plow stuck? Not yet. Nothing too bad has happened. Just a few flat tires, things like that.

Now onto sports. Milledgeville was a basketball power not too long ago. What was it like watching those teams play? It was fun to go watch them. It's fun to try to be like them or grow up wanting to be as good as their teams were.

What do this year's Missiles need to do to get more wins? Cut down on turnovers, mainly. We're not doing too bad at most every other area. If we don't turn it over, we get more shots and score more.

What was it like being on football teams that faced serious numbers issues? I didn't play my freshman year, but sophomore year and last year I played, and getting that first win [against Durand] was pretty entertaining and fun and special for everyone.

There was even talk of a football co-op. Is that just a bad memory? It was a struggle for a while, but we got through it. A lot more people should be coming out this year and when I'm gone, so I think it's going to turn around.

In baseball, you're the starting catcher. Any highlights there? In a regional game against Fulton, the center fielder threw it in and I tagged a guy out. It wasn't a game-winner or anything, but it was a good play.

What do you do for fun outside of sports? Nothing, really. I go to the Y or Westwood, just hanging out with people.

So you're pretty much sports, 24/7? Yeah, I guess.

How do the Chadwick guys and Milledgeville guys get along? Sometimes when we were younger and we'd play each other in summer stuff, we'd have a little competition. Now we get along fine. We go to the same school, so we're pretty good friends.

No fights? No, we're all good.

What's the TV show you don't miss? I watch SportsCenter every morning. That, and professional games and college games – no TV shows really.

What is your favorite band? Anything country is what I listen to.
