OREGON – On Feb. 6, the Oregon High School Counseling Department and the Illinois Student Assistance Commission will host a Free Application for Federal Student Aid Completion Night from 6 to 8 p.m. in the high school library, 210 S. 10th St.

Federal Student Aid, an office of the U.S. Department of Education, ensures that all eligible individuals can benefit from federally funded financial assistance for their college education. All students must complete the financial aid application in order to receive assistance in the form of federal student aid grant assistance, federal student aid loans, or federal student aid work-study.

Applicants should bring their social security numbers, student's driver’s license, 2012 taxes (if available), 2012 W-2 forms, checking and savings account balances, and any information on investments/, stocks, CDs, or 529 savings plans.

To reserve a spot, call the counseling department at 815-732-6241, ext. 1005.

Wise saw collapse in support

Last week, Sterling Alderwoman Amy Viering attended her last meeting as a city official. She gave the usual praise one hears at such departures. But one compliment stuck out. At the end of her speech, she turned to City Administrator Scott Shumard and said, "You're awesome."
