Entries needed for family history book
Free writing workshop today at Sterling library
STERLING – Writers now have until March 15 to be part of the new Whiteside County History and Family Book.
Families who have lived in Whiteside County for any amount of time, and even if they no longer live in the county, can submit 500-word stories and a picture free of charge. A cost of 15 cents per word over 500 and $15 for each additional photo will apply. Samples of similar books can be viewed at the Sterling Public Library, 102 W. Third St.
A free workshop for writing the histories is being held from 1 to 3 p.m. today in the Sterling Public Library conference room. Genealogists will be on hand to help.
The book also will contain histories of churches, schools, businesses, and organizations. There is a charge per page for these articles.
The finished publication will be an 8½-by-11-inch book bound in burgundy, swirl-grained leatherette with a gold foil stamped seal in the shape of Whiteside Co.
You don’t have to buy a book to have your history included.
Books will be available on a pre-sale basis only. The limited edition publication can be ordered by sending a check for $54.95 plus postage of $6.50 to Whiteside County Genealogists, P.O. Box 145, Sterling, IL 61081. Family biographies can be sent to the same address.
Arrangements can be made to pick up the books to avoid postage costs.
