Nativity scene: Why use Jesus to make trouble?
Comments (...)In response to all the letters being sent in concerning the Nativity scene on government building property, let's get this straight. No one is complaining about Nativity scenes in front of churches, and you are free to put what you want in front of your home. But you are not free to put what you want on someone else's property.
Government buildings belong to all the citizens, so you are, in fact, putting something politically or religiously motivated to push your own agenda on shared property belonging to Christians and non-Christians.
People wouldn't complain if people put up a Santa Claus scene, which would be for everyone's enjoyment, but why is it that so many people feel it is so important to put a Christian Nativity scene up, knowing it offends others? That doesn't seem like something Jesus would want.
Yes, by law, it is legal, but why use Jesus to make trouble? So what is the reason to put Nativity scenes up on government property? To me, it seems to be a way to mix church and state, to pressure elected officials, to show young minds that the government is Christian for Christians.
One last thing. In this day and age, we have the computer to check on facts. Please do a little research about the true meaning of Christmas, when Jesus was really born, about religion and our forefathers, about putting "God" on money and in our anthem, and you might finally find some truth.

Or how about Gouverneur Morris the most prolific member of the Convention speaking 173 times on the convention floor, and was the member translated the ideas from the floor onto paper, who actually “wrote” the Constitution, who said: “Religion is the only solid basis of good morals: therefore education should teach the precepts of religion, and the duties of man towards God.” I haven't even scratched the tip of the iceberg, I could go on and on with these quotes from Founders.
