Local roundup: Another upset in Steamer country, as Newman girls fall
The Morgans had a big night as Fulton’s girls basketball team sprung a Three Rivers upset of Newman, 37-31 on Monday in Fulton.
Morgan Sanquist led the Steamers (7-15, 2-5) with 13 points, and Morgan Wierema added 12. Mary Alice Oswalt scored 12 points for Newman (12-9, 8-3), which shot 9-for-22 at the free-throw line as a team.
After the Comets used an 11-5 advantage in the second to trail just 16-15 at the break, the Steamers won the third 7-5 and the fourth 14-11.
