Jayne ‘Ann’ Burgess

DIXON – Jayne “Ann” Burgess, 65, of Dixon, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at her home, after a courageous 9-year battle with cancer. She was a coordinator for TCOC/Head Start for 20 years, then worked in the cafeteria at Reagan Middle School for 9 years before retiring. She also was a licensed cosmetologist. 

Ann was born Sept. 21, 1947, in Dixon, the daughter of Harry and Jean (Ford) Slain.  She married Troy Burgess on Sept. 24, 1966, in Dixon. Ann attended the Church of God in her early years and Northside Baptist in her later years. She loved spending time with her family and playing pranks on them. She could find humor in any situation. Ann was a Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. She enjoyed attending her sons’ and grandson’s sporting events, watching golf, and making crafts.

Survivors include her husband, Troy Burgess, and two sons, Patrick Burgess and Jason (Cassie) Burgess, all of Dixon; one grandson, Brock Hunter Burgess; one sister, Maureen (John) Harris; one sister-in-law, Colleen Slain; and several nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Kevin Slain; and a brother and sister, both in infancy.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by the funeral at noon, Thursday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon, with the Rev. Daniel Bentz, pastor of Northside Baptist Church in Dixon, officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon.

Memorials have been established to Lee County Cancer Society and Serenity Hospice.
