STERLING – Hazel M. DeVries Carlyle died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling. She was a bookkeeper.

She was born Oct. 15, 1918, in New Holland, the daughter of Ray and Inez (Groharing) Machael. She married Jacob DeVries in 1936, in Morrison. He died in 1957. She later married Morris Carlyle in 1963. He died in 1987. She was a member of Rock Falls United Methodist Church, Church Women United, United Methodist Women, and Mariam Circle. Hazel enjoyed music and was an avid reader.

Surviving are her son, Donald R. DeVries of Clinton, Iowa; two daughters-in-law, Susan DeVries of Rock Falls and Kathleen DeVries of Clinton; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by a son, David DeVries; four brothers; two sisters; one grandson; one great-grandson; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11 a.m., Friday at McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Ave., Rock Falls. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Clinton Lawn Memorial Park in Clinton, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rock Falls United Methodist Church.
