ROCK FALLS – Sandra M. Garza, 49, of Rock Falls, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

She was born Sept. 12, 1963, in Sterling, the daughter of Glafiro and Soledad (Pena) Garza. 

Survivors include her children, Josiah Garza and Vanessa Garza, and her mother, Soledad Garza, all of Rock Falls; her sisters, Susan (Clifford) Ortiz and Selma (Peter) Estrada, both of Sterling; her brothers, Pilo (Mary) Garza Jr., Fred (Maria) Garza, and Roy (Crystal) Garza, all of Sterling, and David Garza of Conroe, Texas; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father; and her brother, Raul Garza.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11 a.m., Thursday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.

On pensions, Bivins and GOP far apart

Sen. Tim Bivins, R-Dixon, joined with many of his fellow Senate Republicans this week to reject a pension bill sponsored by Democratic Senate President John Cullerton of Chicago. The measure passed 40-16. Bivins had a different reason for his no vote.
