DIXON – A 34-year-old Dixon woman apparently was killed by her husband, who then tried to kill himself, police said late Sunday.
Yolanda M. Sigler was found dead in her living room at 230 Lincolnway. Dixon Police Chief Danny Langloss declined to say how she died or to characterize her injuries.
Her husband, Brian C. Sigler, also 34, was found in a second-floor bathtub with a knife. He underwent surgery Sunday at KSB Hospital for life-threatening stab wounds to the neck and abdomen, Langloss said.
He has not yet been charged in her death, and will remain under police watch until he can be released from the hospital.
The Siglers' 10-year-old son made the 911 call at 2:26 p.m. The boy is with family members; police don't think he heard or witnessed the altercation, Langloss said.
The killing may have happened sometime overnight; police still are trying to pin down a time-frame, he said.
Officers talked with family members and neighbors Sunday. Illinois State Police crime scene investigators processed the home for evidence.
According to her Facebook page, Yolanda Sigler graduated from Dixon High School in 1997 and got an associate's degree at Sauk Valley Community College in 2001 to become an administrative assistant.
She worked at Crest Foods in Ashton and is certified as a personal trainer, according her page.
This is the year's first homicide in the Sauk Valley, and is one of several homicides or violence-related deaths in Dixon in recent years.
– On Sept. 11, 2009, Margaret Atherton, 35, was suffocated in her home. Byron Adams, 54, was convicted of first-degree murder and was sentenced last month to 60 years in prison.
– On May 22, 2011, the bodies of Mona and Jim Partington, 73 and 75, were found at their Sherman Avenue house. Partington shot and killed his wife, who had dementia, before turning the gun on himself.
– In November, Eleana R. Montgomery, 25, pleaded guilty to drug-induced homicide after giving heroin to Preston W. McMunn, 32, which led to his death Aug. 19 at a Dixon home.
– Tiffany Fassler, 37, is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated battery of a child in the death of her stepson, Colton Fassler, who was 6 in December 2010 when, prosecutors say, she kicked him the chest, causing him to hit his head on a metal vanity. He died nearly a year later.
– And Charles T. George, 25, is accused of shaking his 3-month-old daughter, Tamari, on Sept. 17, 2010, and dropping her on the floor. She died 5 days later at a Rockford hospital. He is charged with involuntary manslaughter, two counts of aggravated battery of a child, and aggravated domestic battery.
