AMBOY – Richard “Dick” Morris, 78, of Amboy, passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at his home. He owned and operated Dick Morris Septic Service in Amboy for 57 years, retiring in February 2012.

He was born Dec. 14, 1934, in Pyatt, Ark., the son of Richard E. and Zella (More) Morris. Dick married Alice Ranken on March 27, 1955, in Dixon. He enjoyed numerous close family gatherings, annual family fishing trips to Bemidji, Minn., and hunting. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers fan. He was very proud of his 12 children.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; 12 children, Susan (Greg) Van Matre of Dixon, Joyce (Jim) Dale of Amboy, Karen (Joel) Bonnell of Dixon, Richard (Michelle) Morris of Compton, Janet (Ryan) Atkins of O’Fallon, Mo., Reita Gulley of Springfield, Va., Gregory Morris of Dixon, Ronald (Sherry) Morris of Amboy, Debra (Scott) Claeys of Stevens Point, Wis., David (Josie) Morris and Allison (Chad) Geuther, both of Amboy, and Bradley (Firouzel) Morris of Aurora; 22 grandchildren, Ryan Van Matre, Brandi Weaver, Mike Dale, Tim Dale, Kim Hermes, Tom Dale, Brian Bonnell, Kyle Bonnell, Vincent Morris, Jeremy and Eric Gabelmann, Ashlee Atkins, Phillip Gulley, Nicole Smalley, Natalee Gulley, Tabitha Berogan, Cody and Caleb Morris, Marty and Mason Claeys, and Montana and Alexa Morris; seven great-grandchildren, Talon, Kaleah, and Kaden Dale, Jordan and Leighton Gulley, Madison Smalley, and Jaiden Phelps; two sisters, Shirley (Robert) Gray of Belleville and Ida Mae (Les) Curtis of Rock Falls; and a brother, Dean Gilbert of Phoenix.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Billy Joe and Tommy Morris; sisters, Beverly Geiger and Donna Eaton, and one grandson, Brock Bonnell.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by the funeral at 1 p.m., today at United First Church, 326 E. Main St., Amboy. Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy is handling arrangements.
