PADS folks appreciate holiday gifts

Text Size: AaAaAaAaAa

In December, on behalf of the children and adults at the PADS shelter in Dixon, we sought donations to assist those families who struggle with homelessness. At the present time (and during the holidays), seven children and 21 adults live at the shelter.

Because of the overwhelming kindness and generosity of so many in our community, all those at PADS enjoyed and benefited from many needed donated items, such as extra meals and food, clothes, sheets, blankets, medicine, personal care products, and holiday gifts.

There were so many people who came forward with monetary donations and in-kind gifts for those at the shelter, that it is hard to name everyone here.

In meeting so many of you for the first time, it was a reminder of how willing those in our community are to help those in need. A special thank you to Cynthia K., Beth E., Sarah P., Jennifer S., Brandy W., and friends, Diane B., Bernadine S., Betty W., Donna G., Pete C., Rosemary B., Teresa S. for the women’s new clothes, Toys for Tots, Dixon Police, Angie T. for wrapping countless gifts for the children, and the Boy Scouts.

Please know that all of you who helped in many different ways brought so much happiness and new hope to the children and adults at the shelter. Children, ages 2-13,  were able to unwrap unexpected gifts, as well as soft, warm blankets, new clothes, etc. In addition, all the adults at the shelter were extremely grateful for the items they received.

At the present time, we are looking for volunteers to assist PADS. For more information, contact me at 815-440-6598 or visit our Facebook site next month.

Good or bad? Depends on who you ask

Sometimes readers ask for more good news in the paper. They say we in the media only cover the bad. But one person's positive is another's negative.

My kind of game

I would have gladly paid to take in the game I covered Saturday morning in Morrison.
