Dixon student wants to study dentistry

Idolizes Taylor Swift

Senior Kacie Jo Dillow, 17, of Dixon, is Dixon High School’s October Student of the Month. Her parents are Jim and Deb Dillow of Dixon; her sister, Brittlyn, 19, plays Division I soccer at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. She has two cats, Angel and Cleo.

Favorite class: AP calculus, as awful as it sounds. I love the challenge, and math always has been my favorite subject. It is always so concrete and there’s no subjective interpretation involved, which is how I like it.

Favorite teacher: Martha Mauch. She taught me for 3 years in geometry, pre-calculus and now calculus. I really like her organized teaching style, and the way she presents the information. For such a hard class, she really knows how to approach it.

Extracurriculars: Sports take up the majority of my time. I cheerlead in the fall, play basketball in the winter and soccer in the spring, with recreational tumbling on the side. I’m also involved in a handful of clubs throughout DHS, like National Honor Society, B.L.I.N.D., peer jury, Envirothon, and this year I am president of Student Council.

After graduation: I plan to attend Drake University and study pre-dentistry, in hopes of being admitted into dental school to become an orthodontist.

Paycheck: I’ve never really had the time for a job with my busy schedule, but when I can fit it in, I baby-sit.

Best friend: My big sister, Brittlyn. I wouldn’t be who I am today without her love and support. She is my hero, and I know I can depend on her for anything, even if she is 8 hours away.

Favorite singer: Taylor Swift. She is my idol, hands down. I like to believe that one day we’ll be best friends.

Favorite actor: Ryan Gosling. Enough said.

Favorite movies/TV shows: Disney movies, and for shows, it’s a draw between “Pretty Little Liars” and “Law and Order: SVU.”

Hobbies: I’m always painting designs on my nails and reading.

Favorite outdoor activity: Camping with my grandma at Jellystone Park in Amboy.

Favorite food: S’mores.

Biggest fear? Failing at anything.

Pet peeve? Repeating my mistakes.

I’m in the dictionary next to: Perfectionist. I try to be the best I can be in everything I do.

Personal trivia: Sadly, I can’t swim.

Dream job: Astronaut. I’ve always been fascinated with the stars and it would be incredible to see them up close.

Trading places: Taylor Swift. In my eyes, she is living the perfect life and I would love to be her, even for just a day.

Trading spaces: Australia. It’s beautiful and it has always been my childhood dream.

Read this: “Perfect Match” by Jodi Picoult. It’s basically a more detailed and eventful episode of “Law and Order: SVU” in book form. I couldn’t put it down.

What would you do if you had $100,000? I would donate some to local animal and pet shelters, and put the rest toward college.

What do you wish your high school offered? A cooking class. I am awful at making anything besides toast.

What advice would you give freshmen for making high school easier? Get involved and be true to yourself.

Shout out to: Jen Keuhl, my close friend and neighbor.
