STERLING – Mary Maxine Redmond, of Sterling, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at her home. She was retired from teaching at the Iowa City, Iowa, and Oak Park school systems.

She was born in Monticello, Iowa, a daughter of Dr. Thomas M. and Catherine (Mullen) Redmond. Maxine was a parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews, Thomas, Julie, Jane, Dennis, John, James, and Marcia; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ralph and James; a sister, Catherine; and two nephews, Michael and Stephen.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by the Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling, with the Rev. James Keenan, celebrant, officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Monticello, Iowa. McDonald Funeral Home in Sterling is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to St. Mary Catholic Church, 601 Avenue B, Sterling, IL 61081.
