Farmers market to be discussed

MORRISON – A planning meeting for Morrison Farmers Market will be at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 31 in the Community Room at Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison St. The market’s opening and closing dates will be discussed. Market hours are 8 to 11 a.m. Saturdays, rain or shine.

Gene Johnston, director of environmental health at the Whiteside County Health Department, will talk about the Cottage Foods Act and food permits for market sales. Karen Real, a food service sanitation certified instructor, will discuss state manager certification and classes.

Full-time vendors will be able to reserve their same 2012 market spaces. New vendors will be given location and market information. Refreshments will be served. Members are needed for the farmers market committee, as well as weekly volunteers to help set up and tear down the market.
