Board to vote on extending Lee and Ogle enterprise zone

Unnamed manufacturer could bring 100 jobs to Rochelle area

DIXON – The Lee County Board will vote on extending the Lee and Ogle County Enterprise Zone at its next meeting Tuesday.

John Thompson, president of Lee County Industrial Development Association, is working with the Greater Rochelle Economic Development Corp. to extend the enterprise zone to property on ProLogis Park near the Lee and Ogle counties border.

An enterprise zone is a statewide economic development tool use by communities to persuade new or old businesses to expand there, cutting a portion or all of their property taxes, sales taxes on building materials or utility costs.

This expansion is being proposed in the hopes of persuading an unnamed manufacturer to bring 100 jobs and $35 million to $45 million of investment to the Rochelle area.

The Dixon City Council voted in December to approve the extension. All incorporated towns and villages in Lee County must vote on the extension; some have yet to do so, Ketchum said.

The board meets at 9 a.m. Tuesday on the third floor of the Old Lee County Courthouse, 112 E. Second St. Go to leecountyil.com, click on “your government” then click on “county board” or call 815-288-5676 for an agenda.
