Amboy man charged in vehicle burglaries

DIXON – An Amboy man was in the Lee County Jail Thursday on $5,000 bond in connection with the burglaries of several cars this week.

Travis B. Broderick, 18, was arrested Wednesday night in the 600 block of South Ottawa Avenue on four counts of burglary to a motor vehicle and resisting or obstructing a peace officer, a misdemeanor.

Police received several reports of burglaries to vehicles between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. They declined to say what was taken from the vehicles, citing the ongoing investigation.

Around 9:35 p.m. Wednesday, a resident in the 200 block of East Fifth Street reported to police that the dome light in his truck was on and the door was ajar.

The caller also said he saw two people walking in the area of his vehicle and they began running.

While in the area, police saw two people in the 300 block of East Seventh Street who fled through backyards after they saw the squad car.

Broderick was arrested in the 600 block of South Ottawa Avenue; more arrests are pending, police say.
