ROCKFORD (AP) — Call up your best Seeker. Recruit your strongest Beaters. Quidditch is coming to Rockford this spring.

Organizers say fans of the Harry Potter books will play in a Quidditch tournament April 26-27 on the soccer fields at Elliot Golf Course. At least 12 Midwest college teams are expected to compete in pool play followed by single elimination.

This tournament will feature ground Quidditch — a sport resembling field hockey that's designed for Muggles, or non-wizards. The Quidditch game described in J.K. Rowling's novels involved flying broomsticks and other magical items.

The Rockford Register Star reports that the April tournament is part of the Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau's efforts to attract nontraditional sports tournaments.
