Lillian J. O’Connor

STERLING – Lillian Jeanne O’Connor, 83, of Sterling, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at her home.

She was born March 7, 1929, in Sterling, the daughter of Arthur Bruce and Maria Adrianne (Colin) Farnham. She married Richard R. O’Connor on June 19, 1949, in Belvidere. He died April 1, 2005. She was a graduate of OSF Saint Anthony School of Nursing in Rockford, and obtained her bachelor’s degree in community nursing from Northern Illinois University. Jeanne worked as the head nurse of pediatric at Community General Hospital, and later as a unit director at Dixon State School. She retired as the director of nursing at Lee County Nursing Home in Dixon. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling and the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Surviving are her daughters, Lorrie (Tom) Meisel, Sue (David) Parks and Peg (Dennis) Stessman; her sons, Michael O’Connor, Kelly (Barbara) O’Connor, and Pat (Charleen) O’Connor; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Arthur B. Farnham.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., with the rosary recited at 4:30 p.m., Friday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling, with the Rev. James Keenan officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling. 

Memorials may be made to the 13th District Nurses Association Scholarship Fund or St. Mary Grade School.
