OREGON – Ken L. “Butch” Long, 69, of Oregon, formerly of Grand Detour, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at his home.áHe worked as a general contractor and real estate agent.
Ken was born July 12, 1943, in Dixon, the son of Arthur and Eva (King) Long.áHe married Tresa Dimmig on Oct. 1, 1966, in Dixon. He served in the Army 143rd Airborne Division during the Vietnam War.áHe was a pilot, and enjoyed raising and showing cattle.áHe built many homes, buildings and apartment complexes in Dixon, and raised his family in the home he built in Grand Detour.áHe was a loving father, husband and grandfather, and will be dearly missed by family and many friends.
Survivors include his wife of Oregon; three sons, Scott (Angie) Long of Rockford, Dan (Jaime) Long of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Russ Long of Chicago; two sisters, Bev Unger of Dixon and Jeannette Hart of Ashton; and three grandchildren, Tyler Long, Hannah Long and Easton Long.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Lawrence “Skeet” Long.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon.áThe funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.áBurial, with full military honors provided by the combined veterans organizations, will be at Grand Detour Cemetery.
A memorial has been established to Serenity Hospice & Home.
