Missiles beat Thunder at home

Courtney Swalve scored 19 points as the Milledgeville girls basketball team posted a 44-37 victory over visiting West Carroll on Wednesday in an NUIC crossover game.

The Missiles (3-12) made 17 of 23 attempts from the free-throw line, while the Thunder were just 11-for-29. Ieshia Larson led West Carroll (3-12) with 11 points.


Erie-P’town, Newman fall to Dakota

Erie-Prophetstown and Newman each had their hands full in duals at Dakota, with the Indians taking a 43-33 decision over the Panthers and a 53-3 contest over the Comets.

Brandon McCullough (106 pounds), Josh Bowling (113), Seth Montgomery (160) and Alan Kuhlemeier (285) gained wins for E-P. Noah Leffelman (285) scored the lone win for Newman vs. Dakota.

The Panthers also gained a 51-22 decision over Newman. Taking wins for the Panthers were McCullough (106), Tyler Naftzger (120) and Jace Bright (220). Claiming wins for the Comets were Jake Snow (126), Brandon Ahlgrim (132), Stephen Adamecz (138), Jermaine Jones (145) and Bryce Ivey (152).


Fishing license sales start Jan. 21

Illinois fishing, hunting and sportsman’s combination licenses for 2013 will be available Jan. 21 from DNR Direct license and permit vendors, online through the website dnr.illinois.gov, or by calling 1-888-673-7648.

The 2013 licenses will be valid through Mar. 31, 2014, unless otherwise noted.

Sign-up under way for youth turkey hunt

The Illinois Recreational Access Program is accepting applications from youth turkey hunters for private land hunting sites in 22 counties – including Lee – next spring.

Kings to Seattle deal almost done

Investor Chris Hansen, seeking to bring an NBA team to Seattle, is nearing a deal to buy the Sacramento Kings from the Maloof family for about $500 million.

Hansen is trying to build a new arena in Seattle, which lost the SuperSonics to Oklahoma City in 2008. The Maloofs are looking to sell the Kings because they have been unable to come up with a long-term solution for a new arena in Sacramento.
