Illinois voters, be aware of gun-control bill

Published: Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 1:15 a.m. CDT

The Illinois Legislature has been dealing with gun control and concealed carry. I believe there have been reports that the governor and Chicago mayor’s gun control bill has not fared well just recently, so another attempt to approve it is in the works.

It sounds like they may attach it to the upcoming bill pertaining to the federal-ordered concealed-carry law. If this is true, the concealed-carry bill will pass if a yes vote is cast, but also the hidden “rider” containing their gun-control bill.

So, when it comes time for a vote, make sure your legislator is aware of what the actual bill contains. A “no” vote on a bill containing unwanted gun-control baggage would then send it back to our legislators. The concealed-carry portion will then have to be brought up for vote again, as that portion of the bill has been ordered by federal court.

Why can’t we get a simple law enabling concealed carry as ordered instead of backstabbing the Illinois voters with hidden riders?

Our legislators have far more important business to tend to than to spend time on the gun-control matter. We already have more than enough gun-control laws, both federal and state.

The “state of Chicago” has had very strict gun control for a long time, and as a result, there has been no improvement in [homicides].

Remember foremost that we are the “rest of the state” majority and need, more than ever, to let our voices be heard. Call your representative to express your feelings.
