Kent State edged in GoDaddy.com Bowl

Ryan Aplin threw for 213 yards and a touchdown, J.D. McKissic caught 11 passes for 113 yards and Arkansas State edged No. 25 Kent State 17-13 to win the GoDaddy.com Bowl on Sunday night.

Kent State was driving late in the game when quarterback Spencer Keith tried to scramble on fourth down and was stopped a few yards short of the marker with 52 seconds left.

Ole Miss cruises in Compass Bowl

Bo Wallace threw three touchdown passes and Mississippi beat Pittsburgh 38-17 in the BBVA Compass Bowl on Saturday.

Illinois dismisses offensive coordinator

The University of Illinois dismissed co-offensive coordinator Chris Beatty.

The Illini finished last in the Big Ten in the first season under coach Tim Beckman, who brought Beatty to Illinois from Vanderbilt. They went 2-10 overall and 0-8 in the Big Ten, while finishing last in points (16.7 per game) and total offense (296.7 yards).


Minnesota pulls away from Northwestern

Austin Hollins hit five 3-pointers during an impressive three-minute stretch in the second half, finishing with 19 points and sparking ninth-ranked Minnesota to a 69-51 victory over Northwestern.

Hollins scored 17 points during a 26-7 run that gave the Gophers a 45-25 lead. Minnesota (14-1, 2-0 Big Ten) has won 10 in a row for its longest winning streak since it opened the 2008-09 season with 12 straight wins.

Dave Sobolewski had 10 points, five assists and four steals for the Wildcats (9-6, 0-2), who were outrebounded 47-20.

Michigan routs Iowa in Ann Arbor

Trey Burke had 19 points and a career-high 12 assists, part of another stellar offensive performance from No. 2 Michigan in a 95-67 win over Iowa on Sunday.

Glenn Robinson III added 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Wolverines (15-0, 2-0 Big Ten). Devyn Marble scored 14 points for the Hawkeyes (11-4, 0-2).

Badgers outlast Cornhuskers on road

Jared Berggren scored 12 of his 13 points in the second half, Ryan Evans had 10 points and a career-high 15 rebounds, and Wisconsin held Nebraska to one basket over the last 6:19 in a 47-41 victory Sunday.


Bulls sign veteran guard Cook

The Chicago Bulls signed veteran shooter Daequan Cook to a prorated portion of the veteran’s minimum Sunday.

Cook cleared waivers from the Houston Rockets on Friday and should be in uniform for tonight’s home game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Cook started his career with the Miami Heat and has averaged 6.9 points in 295 career games. The career 36.5 percent 3-point shooter also has played for the Oklahoma City Thunder and Rockets.
