PROPHETSTOWN – Rollin A. Heaton Jr., 82, of 307 N. Jackson St., Morrison, formerly of Prophetstown, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Morrison Community Hospital.

He was born Jan. 8, 1930, in Galva, the son of Rollin A. and Mabel (Nelson) Heaton. He attended Kewanee grade schools and graduated from Kewanee High School. He graduated from Western Illinois University in Macomb with his bachelor’s degree, and from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb with his master’s degree in secondary education. 

He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He married Barbara L. Krumtinger on July 11, 1953, in Kewanee. She preceded him in death on Dec. 17, 2007. Rollin taught business in the Prophetstown/Lyndon high schools, and was the golf and basketball coach. He also worked at Climco in Morrison.   

Rollin was a member of Morrison Country Club and Prophet Hills Country Club. He holds the record at the Prophet Hills Country Club for the most club championships. Rollin holds the NAIA record for 36-hole score in golf.    

Survivors include five daughters, Jane Casanova of Moline, Pat (Jim) Friedrichs of Sterling, Susan (Neil) Dewey of Geneseo, Paula (Rory) Fotzler of Lancaster, Wis., and Amy (Bill) Jones of Prophetstown; one son, Leo (Kim) Heaton of Prophetstown; 14 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; two sisters, Janet Morris of Prophetstown and Sandra (Pete) Reiff of Kewanee; one brother, Jack (Kay) Heaton of Kewanee; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Marion Collins of Morrison.

He was preceded in death by his wife; daughter-in-law, Susan Heaton; brother-in-law, Jim Morris; and sister-in-law, Kathy Heaton.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home, 320 Lafayette St., Prophetstown. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Greg Olson, pastor of First Lutheran Church in Prophetstown, officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown.

Memorials have been established to Hospice and Prophetstown High School.
