Lilah M. Gorzny
POLO – Lilah M. Gorzny, 94, of Polo, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Sterling Pavilion.
She was born May 17, 1918, in Lyndon, the daughter of Clarence and Edna (Johnson) Sibley. Lilah graduated from Prophetstown High School in 1935. She married John H. Gorzny on May 17, 1939, in Clinton, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Aug. 31, 2005. She had farmed with her husband for many years, and was famous for her angel food cakes and pickles. Lilah enjoyed bowling and playing pinochle. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Polo, St. Mary Altar and Rosary Society, and the Polo Senior Center.
She is survived by her children, Janice Kuepker of Sterling, John (Dottie) Gorzny of Edwardsville, Jerry (Nancy) Gorzny of Hamel, Jolene (Donald) Kelly of Tampico, Joel (Debra) Gorzny of Polo, and James (Sarah) Gorzny of Oregon; 13 grandchildren, Rodney (Sarah) Kuepker, Kyle (Jill) Kuepker, Jodi (Dustin) Thompson, Aubrey (Henry) Sanchez, Jamie (Angie) Gorzny, Jonathon (Erin) Gorzny, Michael (Jennifer) Kelly, Matthew (Corrin) Kelly, Jacqueline Gorzny, Joshua Gorzny, Jordan (Beth Bohms) Gorzny, Olivia Gorzny, and Cade Gorzny; three stepgrandchildren, Lainie (Perry) Zach, Pam (Reuben) Stoddard, and Mark Stoddard; 15 great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Emma Vervaecke of Morrison; and one sister-in-law, Frances Scudder of Sterling.
