Emails to city officials go unanswered
I wonder whether you can find out why city officials ignore inquiries from citizens.
Over a month ago, I emailed Ted Padilla, Rock Falls street superintendent, and asked whether he could grind down several bumps on West Fifth Street. After a week or so having no response, I sent another email with a copy to the mayor.
Still no response. I emailed Michelle Conklin, deputy clerk, to ask who my alderman was and got an immediate reply. So I emailed Mark Vandersnick, 1st Ward council member, and again got no response.
All of their email addresses are on the city website, but if they are not going to reply, the addresses should be taken down.
A few years ago, I emailed the Sterling mayor to ask whether it was now legal to park at the crosswalk at the Sterling Post Office, since so many people were doing it, and I never got a response. Many people still park there.
So what’s the deal? Are city officials prohibited from communicating with citizens? Are they not trained in how to use email? Are they too self-important to bother?
