Sterling bowls over Ottawa; West Carroll hoops tops Polo

Warriors continue to roll

Amber Granzow rolled a 619 series to lead the Sterling girls bowling team to a 3,109-2,916 victory over Ottawa on Thursday at Town Lanes in Ottawa.

Granzow had games of 169, 259 and 191 in amassing her series. She was followed by Destinee Howard (562), Brandy Behrens (536), Samantha Lewis (498), Megan Tintori (486) and Sherilyn Winstead (408).

The Golden Warriors took all 10 team points and are now 6-1 in duals.

Chrissy Pond had a 585 series to lead the Pirates.

Girls basketball

Forreston 62, AFC 44: The Raiders led the Cardinals 28-24 at the half before being outscored 38-16 in the second half of the NUIC East matchup in Ashton.

Anna Drake scored 19 of her 24 points in the second half to lead Forreston (13-6, 5-0). Alisyn Essex scored 13 points and Sarah Matson 12 to pace AFC (6-7, 0-5).

West Carroll 32, Polo 24: Trailing 15-13 at the half, the Thunder outscored the Marcos 19-9 in the second half for the nonconference win at Polo.

Ieshia Larson scored 11 points and Kaylee Vos nine for West Carroll (3-10). Keeley Meyer led the Marcos (3-11) with 10 points.

Stockton 41, Eastland 39: The Cougars led 35-28 entering the final quarter before the Blackhawks rallied in Stockton.

Izy Todd paced Eastland (13-6, 2-1 NUIC West) with eight points. Emily Langfield had 11 points for Stockton (11-5, 5-0).
