DEKALB – Visual arts, theatre, and instrumental jazz will be on the Northern Illinois summer camp agenda in July.

These 6-day residential camps are for junior and senior high school students. Campers work with faculty, alumni, and students to gain a greater appreciation for the life of an artist.

The camps are:

Theatre Arts: The junior session will be from July 7 to 12 for students in sixth to eighth grades. A senior session will be from July 14 to 19 for students in ninth to 12th grades.

The students will spend their time in rehearsals, classes, individual coaching sessions, and theater games. Workshop choices include auditioning, acting, musical theater, stage combat, makeup, and lighting and set design.

Two other camps will be July 14-19 for students from eighth to 12th grades:

NIU Jazz: Instrumentalists will rehearse and perform in a big band, combo, or a Latin jazz combo. The daily curriculum includes master classes, concerts, jazz theory, improvisation, jam sessions, sectionals, and optional private lessons.

Visual Arts: Campers will have two daily in-depth studio sessions in creative arts with their choice of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional classes. The day will include talks by professional artists and open studio time.

All campers will stay in residential halls on campus, and will have evening recreational activities, such as bowling, basketball, and movies.

Visit www.artscamps.niu.edu for registration forms and more information. Early registration is advised.

Camp scholarships are available; scholarship applications must be received by May 1.
