Published: Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 1:15 a.m. CST

SPRINGFIELD – Handbell ringers will demonstrate their skills Feb. 23 at the 25th annual Handbell Festival in the gymnasium at First United Methodist Church, 2941 S. Koke Mill Road.

The festival is presented by the Illinois Great Rivers Conference Chapter of the Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts. The daylong event is open to handbell choirs and individual ringers, throughout the Midwest.

The clinician will be Christine D. Anderson, artist in residence at The Master’s College in Santa Clarita, Calif. She founded, and still performs with, the Medallion Ringers, a professional four-in-hand handbell quartet.

Anderson will teach two classes in the morning, one focusing on technique ringing and the other on repertoire reading. After lunch, there will be a mass ringing session. There is no music to prepare or purchase; equipment will not need to be moved.

Registration starts at 8 a.m., with ringing from 9 a.m. until lunch, and then continuing until 3 p.m.

The cost is $35 per ringer for churches with a Fellowship member, and $40 per ringer for churches without a Fellowship member. The price includes breakfast and lunch.

The registration deadline is Jan. 23. A late fee of $10 per ringer will be charged for registrations postmarked after the deadline. There are no refunds after Jan. 23, but substitutions may be made. Payment is due when registering.

Registrations can be mailed to Marilyn Hirschman, P.O. Box 138, Farmer City, IL 61842-0138. For more information, email Hirschman at mjhir@aol.com or call 309-928-2067.
