FREEPORT – On March 3, 2012, Newman broke Aquin's heart, eking out a 61-57 come-from-behind overtime win in the Class 1A River Ridge Sectional championship. On Wednesday, the Comets were unable to score half that many points.

Newman shot a dismal 13 percent in the first half and 22 percent overall in a 44-28 nonconference loss at Aquin. The Comets were just 3-for-24 in the first half, including 1-of-10 from 3-point range. They wound up 11-for-51 and 4-of-16 from 3.

Newman (10-3) managed just four points in the first quarter and three in the second, trailing 25-7 at the break.
