Older veteran invites young vets to join groups

Text Size: AaAaAaAaAa

To all returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, the American Legion and VFW posts need your help now.

Both veterans groups are losing members mainly because of age. The image of the Legion and VFW has changed. Veterans no longer attend meetings to drink beer and tell war stories. They are now involved with helping veterans and numerous community service projects as follows:

n Helping and aid to veterans and families. We serve as honor guards at funerals, participate in welcome home parades and parties, and help find employment with assistance to families.

n Community service. We give talks at schools, provide scholarship programs, and help with the Boy Scouts, Air Cadets and flag respect.

n Special days to remember. We provide services on Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, POW-MIA Day and Veterans Day.

Perhaps you have a grandparent, uncle, aunt, father, or brother or sister who has served recently. Tell them that we old veterans can really use them.

Note to readers – Don Blair is a Korean War veteran and served with the First Marine Airwing.
