Club thankful for support of holiday raffle
The Sterling Optimist Club would like to thank everyone who purchased one of our “12 Days of Christmas” raffle tickets. We have been running this fundraiser for 9 years, and for the fourth year in a row, we sold all 500 tickets we printed, thanks to the generosity of the caring people who purchased a ticket.
Special thanks to the staff at Northland Mall for allowing us the visibility to sell tickets at the center of the mall during the holiday season. The proceeds raised from this raffle are used to help fund the $2,500 in scholarships the Sterling Optimist Club awards to local high school graduating seniors who go on to attend SVCC each year.
Our $50 winners were Lisa Wolber and Sonor Smith of Dixon, James Rhodes, Tony Walters, Gary Warner, and “anonymous” of Sterling, Connie Westfell and Michelle Bragg of Rock Falls, Nick Spencer of Urbandale, Iowa, and Kelvin E. Tenboer of Morrison.
The $250 winner was Matt Rigsman of Dixon, and the $500 winner was Dennis Schantz of Sterling.
Through this and the many other projects the Sterling Optimist Club runs throughout the year, the generous support of the Sauk Valley allows the club to fulfill our International Optimist motto of being “Friends of Youth” to the youth of our community.
Thanks again, and we look forward to your continued support of our “12 Days of Christmas” raffle fundraiser next year and for many years to come.
Note to readers – Joe Martin is the project chairman, and John Plummer is the club president.
