Jo Anne Latta

ROCK FALLS – Jo Anne Latta, 64, of Rock Falls, passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, after a long, courageous battle with multiple sclerosis.

Jo was born March 7, 1948, in Sterling, the daughter of Fred and Lois (Miller) Edeus. She was married for more than 35 years to LaVerne Latta. Jo was a devoted member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, serving the church and her Lord in many ways, such as church secretary, Sunday school teacher, Women’s Society member and choir member. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and also enjoyed caring for her yard and gardening. She had been employed as an accountant for several years at National Manufacturing.

Survivors include one son, Jim (Christi) Latta of Rock Falls; one daughter, Jody (Greg) Taylor of Aurora; one brother, Ron (Ardyce) Edeus of Rock Falls; two grandsons, Sumner Latta and Zachary Taylor; and two granddaughters, Madilyn Latta and Corynn Latta. She will be missed by her family and dear friends.

Wise saw collapse in support

Last week, Sterling Alderwoman Amy Viering attended her last meeting as a city official. She gave the usual praise one hears at such departures. But one compliment stuck out. At the end of her speech, she turned to City Administrator Scott Shumard and said, "You're awesome."
