SPRINGFIELD (AP) — A Springfield ordinance that bans people under 18 from commercial tanning beds goes into effect Tuesday.

The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports that aldermen approve the ban in October. The young people can't tan, even if their parents say it's OK. The ordinance doesn't apply to spray tans or tanning beds at private residences.

Springfield's proposal was sponsored by Alderman Sam Cahnman. He says he'll send a copy of the ordinance to all tanning businesses to remind them of the ban.
