NOVELTY, Mo. – Lewis Wayne Whiles, 63, of Novelty, Mo., passed away Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.

Lewis was born Nov. 15, 1949, in Kewanee, the son of Billy Carlos and Kathryn Louise (Martin) Whiles. He graduated from Rock Falls High School, in the class of 1967. After graduation, he served his country in the Army, stationed in Germany.

On Dec. 8, 1967, in Sterling, Lewis married Nellie “Darlene” Jones. To this union, three children were born. She preceded him in death on Jan. 5, 2006. Lewis married Norma Marie Ray on Sept. 1, 2007, in Novelty. She survives at the home.

He enjoyed his life as a truck driver for ATI, and worked a couple of years for Wahl Clipper Corp. in Sterling before moving to Novelty in 1994. He owned Sugar Bear’s Café in Edina, Mo., until retiring.

Lewis enjoyed deer and turkey hunting, and fishing for catfish in his favorite ponds. He had been a member of the Rock Falls Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Whiles of Novelty; three sons, Lewis Whiles Jr. of Quincy, Troy Whiles of Novelty, and William “Bill” and his wife Annette Whiles of Edina; a daughter, Fawn, and her husband, Brian Moncrief of Davenport, Iowa; a stepdaughter, Susan Bland of Florida; two brothers, Michael Whiles of Novelty, and Ricky and his wife Sandy Whiles of Hurdland, Mo.; three sisters, Connie and her husband Jim Lange of Rock Falls, Susan and her husband Rick Chaffee of Dixon, and Cindy Pro of Lyndon; six grandchildren, Damen Whiles, Samantha Whiles, Katie Whiles, Tristan Whiles, Halia Whiles, and Robert Whiles; four stepgrandchildren, James Bland, Michael Gaddy, Frank Voger, and Shane Voger; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of neighbors and friends.

Lewis also was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Kathryn Whiles; and his wife, Nellie “Darlene” Whiles.

The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Harvest Time Bible Church in Rock Falls. Committal, with full military honors, will follow at Coloma Township Cemetery in Rock Falls. Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Mo., handled arrangements.
