Boys roundup: Powers goes over 1,000, Clippers take third

While the Eastland Cougars won their own tourney, Tyson Powers had a benchmark day in helping the Amboy Clippers to fifth place with a 50-37 victory over Annawan.

Powers scored 32 points to go over 1,000 in his prep career, and also grabbed 12 rebounds to make the all-tourney team. The senior multisport star is now sixth on the school's all-time scoring list. Amboy (4-10) took a 28-15 lead, and got 11 points from Damon Quest.

Eastland 51, Warren 35: In the title game, the Cougars beat their NUIC West rival by double digits for the second time this season.

Dalton Shaner led all scorers with 19 points, and Eastland (11-2) took a 30-17 halftime lead by outscoring Warren (7-11) 16-7 in the second period. Shaner and teammates Ty Hartman, Austin Hansen and Skylar Paulson were all named to the all-tourney team.

Austin Williams led Warren with 18 points.

Pearl City 49, Fulton 44: The Steamers couldn't build on an 18-9 lead after one period of the seventh-place game.

Nick Fish led Fulton (3-14) with 14 points, but Pearl City (2-11) enjoyed a 27-13 advantage in the middle periods. Evan Bull led the Wolves with 16 points, and Cody Kluck added 14.

Plano tournament

Somonauk 60, Dixon 47: The Dukes stumbled out of the gate, being outscored 14-5 in the first period of the 23rd-place game.

Cal Jarrett led Dixon (2-12) with 19 points and grabbed six rebounds, while freshman Isaiah Roby pitched in 14 points and seven boards.

John Wathan scored a game-high 25 points for Somonauk.

Erie tournament

Bureau Valley 51, Orion 39: Parker Neuhalfen scored a game-high 19 points, leading the Storm to the tourney title.

Brian Lange added 14 points for BV (13-6), which outscored the Chargers 16-5 in the fourth quarter. Tournament MVP Dylan Schultz led Orion with 18 points.

Erie 65, Knoxville 51: The Cardinals got 19 points from Connor Saad, 18 from Jacob Johnstson and 17 from Rhett Stover in their seventh-place game win.

Erie (10-6) outscored Knoxville 15-4 in the second quarter to take a 27-18 halftime advantage. Nolan Lewis scored a game-high 24 points for Knoxville.
