Bailey, Duchesses salvage 13th at own tourney

Dixon junior Brooke Bailey poured in 27 points as the Duchesses beat Pekin 42-38 in Saturday’s 13th-place game of the Dixon tournament.

Dixon (6-10) hit 18 of 22 free-throw attempts, with Bailey going 13-for-14.

Katie Powell scored nine points for Pekin, which was just 10-for-24 from the stripe.

Sterling takes seventh: After Rockford Lutheran edged Sterling 62-59 in the 9 a.m. game, Bailey Oetting scored all eight of her points in the fourth quarter to held the Golden Warriors pin down seventh place with a 48-39 win over Dunlap.

Harris led Sterling (8-10) in the first game, with 16 and 14 points, respectively, but the Warriors couldn’t make a 45-36 lead through three periods stand up.

Harris scored a team-high 13 points in the seventh-place game. Damilola Taiwo led
Dunlap with 16.

Eastland takes 11th: The Cougars overcame a 52-45 loss to Aurora Christian with a 49-36 victory in the evening’s 11th-place game against Rockford Christian.

Lexis Macomber scored 39 total points, 22 in the morning loss and 17 in the victory. Eastland stormed out to a 24-9 halftime lead against Rockford Christian before withstanding a 17-6 deficit in the third, then winning the fourth 19-10.

Amboy tournament

Amboy 38, Indian Creek 29: Brooke Lovgren shot the Clippers way ahead, and Autumn Smith commanded the paint in the third-place game.

Lovgren hit three 3s for nine of her 12 points in the opening period, in which Amboy (8-7) outscored Indian Creek 16-5. Smith led all scorers with 13 points.

AFC 61, Somonauk 54: Sarah Matson cemented her place on the all-tournament team with 25 points in a losing effort in the fifth-place game.

The senior sharpshooter scored 16 points in the second half, but the Raiders (7-6) could not overcome a 28-15 halftime deficit. She was joined on the
all-tourney squad by sophomore Alisyn Essex.

Prophetstown tournament

Hall 51, West Carroll 40: The Thunder fell to the Red Devils in the seventh-place game at Prophetstown.

Ieshia Larson scored 17 points to lead West Carroll (2-10), and Kaylee Vos added 11.
